Exhaust

Post by ken carrick »

In the process of purchasing a 1984 Honda Goldwing as a second bike and am looking for info and suggestions on after market exhaust or altering the stock exhaust and which way is the best route.

Thanks to all, Ken

Go on then, I'll bite... What's wrong with the exhaust that's already on it?

Nothing wrong, just too quiet for me. My other ride is a 97 Valkyrie with the 6 into 6 Cobra but I don't see where they are available for the 1200 wings. Just wondering what other options may be available.
Thanks for responding.

There aren't many aftermarket exhaust systems for the 1200 as they are long out of production, especially ones made for more noise.
Mac might give a little more noise, but has known poor quality chrome.
You can find mufflers that you can fabricate pipe extensions from the headers to the mufflers you decide to go with. Many have used take off harley mufflers for cheap.

Very much appreciate the reply regarding after market exhaust. Am happy to hear some postings suggesting the stock exhaust is not as quiet as the later models of wings, hopefully I can live with stock exhaust of the 1200's. After market exhaust have saved me serious injury twice in my 50 years of riding. Just like to have it available when necessary.

Thanks again.

Do some research on Harley factory take off mufflers for your bike. They are almost free as they are removed from most Harleys when they are still new. I have a set on my 76. There are many older wings that they have been installed on. They aren't exceptionally loud under normal conditions but really scream under heavy acceleration.

I put a couple of Screamin' Eagles on a Royal Star Tour Deluxe and they sounded great. Didn't have to make any mods to get them to fit. Is that the case with the 'Wing? I have a couple of stock Harley mufflers. I know the mounts on the Harley mufflers are different from the 'Wing ... has anyone posted plans for an adapter?

Look in the how to section at the top of the main page.
Also Google will get videos.
