can you use dry graphite on the speedometer to lube it 85 Interstate, the speedometer is howling up in the dash

I've never had one apart myself but, if it is in fact the speedometer that is noisy I might try a drop or two of light machine oil in the spot where the head turns. But, it is very likely that it is the cable and the best way to lube it is with some white lithium grease and if you take the cable out of the housing (tube) you can put a little grease on the cable as you push it back into the housing.
