Battery dies

Post by freddyc481 »

So I have a 1985 gl1200 and my battery dies after I turn on the switch after a few minutes I've replaced the solenoid checked all the fuses and checked wireing from battery to switch and replaced some and still dies ....cleaned the ignition switch of all corrosion and lasted alittle longer but still same end result any tip or pointers would really help....

Sounds like your battery has given up. Is the charging system working? If so, time for a new battery.

It was gift from my uncle but he said that it might need some work... And I like the challenge honestly it's got great potential. I'd like to see it run again he took me riding when I was alittle younger on it.

That’s great. All of us love our wings. The reason I asked is that in order to help you, we need details. If you buy yourself a shop manual and read through it and look up those items you are not familiar with, it will help you and us to provide advice. Also, we LOVE pics. So, when asking about an item, take a pic and show us. Good luck.

Take the battery out, charge it up and take it to your local auto parts store to have it load-tested. I think you'll find it's bad....

Or maybe a bad solenoid there beside the battery.
