1986 SEI

Post by Laopozda68 »

My ECM is giving me two error codes.
1. #1,3 cylinder injectors
2. #2, 4 cylinder injectors

Both say Fuel injection and ignition timing are both stopped.

Any suggestions?

Another thought, does anyone know what system/module/sensor would kill both spark and fuel at the same time?

I'm not sure about your model but I lost spark and fuel on my 92 GL1500 because of a loose connection on the kill switch on the handlebar. Never had that problem on my 86 Aspencade, carburetor, though. Check to see if you have 12V+ power on the kill switch and power from there to the ECM.

Update.....
After testing all components in the ignition system, they all fell within specs, one of the two codes went away. After rechecking that one connection in question, not only did the second code return but it brought another one with it.

At this point, I am guessing the ECU is suffering from a schizoid embolism and needs to be replaced.

You can get a new ECU here for $4900. It was relisted.

The Ns (crank) sensor, Gr/Gl (commonly called PG sensors) on the back of the right head - if both fail - engine will operate on one sensor, both injectors on either bank fail simultaneously. These stop you from starting.

Fault codes occur when the signal from the component does not get to the ECU.

Check the wiring from the injectors to the ECU connection. There is an injector check in the service manual.
