1984 Interstate Fairing

Post by CAMillion »

I recently bought an 84 Interstate with 23K miles and runs and drives excellent.
However, The previous owner(s) did not give her the loving care that the wings deserve!
Although mechanically sound, the 'body' is in rough shape - missing and broken trim, side bag lids loose when secured, fairing side lights (each side of headlight) are broken/missing, mirrors broke off, etc.
The biggest issue is the inside of the fairing - Appears as though the stereo and speakers were stolen and they apparently used pry bars and busted the crap out of it. Speaker housing (both side) are cracked at upper corners and the stereo cavity has plumbers tape with zip screws holding the insides together! Fairing does not wobble and appears secure to the frame though.
SO,
I HOPE that I can pull the fairing off and separate the black plastic insides from the outer shell and replace it.
How difficult would this be?
AND,
Is the inside section even available anywhere?
If it is only through salvage, where would I start to look?
Thanks!

(I still have my 79 and the other 84 but both are stripped of body parts)

The inside section is not removable from the outer section. I went through this with a GL1100 fairing a couple of years ago. Honda did not intend these parts to ever be able to be separated after manufacturing. Your best bet is to get a used fairing in good condition instead.

Thanks -
Oddly enough, I have searched for the fairing 'nose' and there are several out there but in worse condition than mine.
So, guess I'll repair it - the outside has NO damage/scuffs or scratches! Lucky I got what I got!
(Hoping to find a 'new' one - yeah right! LOL)

I also have an 84 fairing that has been gutted and in great shape.

I've taken the windshield, headlight, radio, all wiring, lowers etc off, so it's just the fairing. Red in colour.

Let me know if you need anything.

Sorry for responding so late - Mine is burgundy in color and exterior is in almost excellent shape so I plan to attempt to repair the inside cracks and tabs with ABS plastic and cement.
IF I can actually do this, I will be thrilled.
IF I get frustrated, I may consider either of the fairing offers -
Out of curiosity, How much for the Black one and Red one?
(Price will determine level of frustration!)
Thanks guys!

@CAMillion

My fairing just got grabbed up and is being picked up this weekend. I sold it for $50 Canadian which is about $2 US lol. I just wanted it out of my shop; it takes up a lot of room.
