I have a new to me 1986 GL1200 interstate that has been sitting since 1991. I got from a coworker who fixed someone’s car and received it as payment. The carbs have been rebuilt and it has a new fuel pump and filter. The tank is completely shot so I ran a hose from a gas can to the filter. Also let me state not one fairing is in the bike as squirrels nested and I chucked them all the bike is currently naked as I try to get it to breath life on its own.
So here’s What I’ve got. When you spray hot shot in the a/f housing it runs and sounds great but will not run with out it. When I turn the switch to run, the pump will click once. When i crank it nothing no fuel comes out. Here’s where I’m confused when i take my test light to the pump(white wire) and crank it I get power and the pump works and shoots fuel out(i didn’t have it hooked up so i could see the flow) so why won’t it work without my test light? I checked the green wire ground is present. What steps would you guys try next?

continuity to ground doesn't necessarily mean GOOD ground. i have been fooled enough times that i got into the habit of removing/cleaning ground connections when there is an issue like that.

Well after 29 years she lives! So it turns out there was just some old fuel left in the lines that went into the fresh carbs. Once I emptied the bowls she fired right up!

I'm glad that it was a fairly simple fix.

It’s not as glorious as you’d think. Rodents nested in the fairings and it was filthy I stripped it down as soon as I got it home. It was in the north East all oxidized and a touch of rust. It’s going to take some time work.Goldenponyboy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 8:39 pm Post some pics of it. I want to see what a 1900 mile barn find looks like.
