Handlebar Grip Help

Post by stormcloud6 »

My 84 GL1200 is my first bike, that being said please be patient with some of my blunders.

The rubber grips that it came with were all but hanging on by the safety zip ties on the throttle and clutch side. So I went on Amazon and bought what I thought were replacement grips, I bought replacement tubes! So to YouTube I went and looked up how to replace the tubes, I failed miserably and for some reason I can't get the throttle cable heads to line up into the new tube holes, I tried for hours and it just does not seem to line up, I Put the old tube back on.

So, does anyone have any advice or a good tutorial to install a new double throttle tube grip for a GL1200 or can rec commend me some solid rubber grips to install on the original tubes. I'm afraid of purchasing something that won't fit.

Did you release the throttle tension adjusters to give you more free play before you tried to install the cable ends into the new throttle tube? It's all but impossible to do if you haven't opened those adjusters up significantly.

I did, I fully released the throttle adjusters. But I only did it from the throttle handle bar side.

There are actually two adjusters - one is buried nearer to the throttles, and can be seen next to the air cleaner. You will have to loosen both the one at the handlegrip and the one near the air cleaner:

Throttle cable adjusters
Throttle cable adjusters
