Wiring schematic vs wiring diagram

Post by CAMillion »

I've been taught that a wiring diagram shows components and inter connections with wire color codes.
A wiring schematic is basically the same and includes plug and terminal connections. It also includes all auxiliary connections for optional equipment; trailer plugin, CB, additional lighting, etc.
I assume that Honda used the same wire harness for the standard, interstate and aspencade.
Is there a schematic available for the 84 that shows the connections, plugs, etc.?
As an example, my Interstate has a 2 wire plug at the rear with a green wire and a white wire. What is it for?
Did the Interstate come with a trailer hitch? I do not see any plug or connection for it on my bike. Yet it has a hitch with a 4 wire socket that is literally spliced into the rear turn signals, lights and brake lights using the blue snap clips that are junk!
Really hope that there is a schematic that has the information.

Pics show the left rear lights connection and 2 additional plugs. Black plug has 1 green wire and 1 light green with black tracer. The brown plug has 1 green wire and 1 white wire.
Pics also show the crappy splices someone made to connect the 4 wire hitch socket.

Any help would be great!

the bike has a LOT of poor wiring hookups for after market add-ons.
none of which you will ever be able to identify.

Best to strip everything back to the OEM harness and try to keep it so you can add on something in a professional way.

no trailer hitches from the factory, all are add-ons be previous owners.

I have a colored schematic that might be of help, will send you a PM.

What you're looking for is the Honda Electrical Service manual. I recently (few months back) found one on EBay from an individual. The manual includes locations of connections with pictures.

Yep but very difficult to locate - Found one for $145!
That's a wee bit high for my budget!

Keep looking, they're out there for less! That $145 is too much, for me too!

One thing to consider is buy the 1985 version, it'll be close to the 1984 version, for instance

The ignition and gear info won't locate properly, but......

Glad to see you found a useful resource...

About the only other way of confirming a condition as you've described above is by looking at the part fische for those models, for comparative purposes.

Luck to you in sorting out your issues!
