Hi All
I want to install a 12 volt power port on my 86 GL1200 SEI. On my old Aspencade the fuse box had a aux power terminal.
where can I find this on the SEI? or where would be best place to tap the power. I want it to be off when the key is off so connecting directly to the battery is not an option for me
Thanks

Re: GL 1200 SEI aux power port
I'll weigh in. There is no aux power terminal. Best to install a relay to control the power to the power port. This way you can use just about any switched power supply to power the relay (low power)then run a 12 VDC supply to the 12 VDC power port.
This is probably the start of some add ons. I would purchase an inexpensive 6 fuse fuse block from Amazon/eBay that has an integrated ground bus. This way you could install a relay to control the power to the fuse block. You would have one power and ground wire from the battery, power through the relay to the fuse block, ground directly to the fuse block - grounding the relay can be at the new fuse block. After this install, you can add various items a you need/want to.
Another advantage to this install is that you keep your add ons separate from the OEM wiring, easier to troubleshoot, keeping in mind that Honda installed a wiring harness that has the minimum size wire(s) to safely operate the electrical system as the bike came from the factory.

Where would you recommend that tap for the initial power to the relay that is tied in to the key?
thanks again

I would use one of the clearance light circuits. Another place is the blue/light green wire in the right handle bar wire harness. It comes from fuse #5 and only has power when the key is on.
