Handlebars
Good morning to all. I have a 85 LTD and I have been searching high and low through this site and the internet for answers,so I deciced to ask yall. Is there any way to change the handlebars on a 85 LTD? I am wondering if there is a kit or anything for risers to be installed so that a set of 7/8 bars can be added. I am 6'5" and i feel like the stock bars are on my knees and i feel very unstable(top heavy) on her? I have moved the seat back as much as possible. Thanks in advance for all the help.

There probably is(nor was) not a 'kit' for taller bars, cables and hoses.
Risers is a possibility, if you know the diameter of the bars at the triple clamps? Risers only will give an inch or so gain.
I haven't had a 1200 to know the base diameter.
Depending on how high you want to go is a factor in the cables and hoses you would need to order longer cables from Motion Pro and longer stainless steel brake & clutch hoses depending on extra rise height you go to, thus no kits and most riders never changed the bars.
The 1500s were a bugger as Honda decided to have 1" base clamp bars that were swedged down to 7/8" at the top for the handle controls which was a total cluster f for those that wanted taller bars and the dash cover eliminated using riser blocks.

I bent mine to almost straight up and it gave me nearly an inch higher at the grips.

Sorry, crude pix but you get the point.
But the bar covers don't fit exactly right, which I can live with much more than sore wrists.
While I was at it I also twisted the grip angle from pointing towards me to outward.
Got rid of that odd wrist twist... never understood that position.

Your limitation is going to be the Hydraulic hoses and the throttle cables. Impossible, no, difficult, yes. You maybe able to find someone to make you new hoses and cables, but it will not be cheap.
I put custom bars on my 84, but they are fully adjustable and I was able to adjust them to get the cables, hoses and wires to all work. My bike is naked, so I have more options.

If adjusting the bars up, just check clearance at full lock between the fluid reservoirs and the windshield. You don't want them slapping it as you turn trying to park just so, or when checking levels, etc.

Agreed. I've done this before - cut handlebars, welded in extension pieces to extend them back about five inches. I had to cut the wiring harnesses and splice five inches into each and every one of the wires (about 25 wires, that took a while). Then had custom brake and clutch lines made, as well as custom throttle cables.
