LED Driving Lights
New to the forum. Have 84 Goldwing GL1200 that I want to add driving lights. The bike has rear light bar which I want to remove. Will the draw of LED driving lights still be more than the rear light bar as compensation for stator? Or am I still going to have a problem at low RPMs?

Re: LED Driving Lights
You should probably start a new topic about this in the GL1200 Information and Questions Forum instead of here in the Product Reviews Forum. It will get much more exposure there. Here, the only people that will see your question are people that have posted here or are otherwise following this particular subject.
With that said, if you want to decrease your load on your Stator, why not replace all your lights with LED's? You could keep the light bar and still install the LED Driving Lights. As you most likely already know, LED's draw a lot less power than standard tungsten bulbs. The 10 Watt driving lights that I use put out the same but whiter light to the eye than do the 55 Watt halogen driving lights I had installed.
The current draw for LED's in place of stock bulbs is normally about half what is needed for stock bulbs.

Re: LED Driving Lights
MikeB: Prior to this bike, I had a Yamaha Venture 1300 which had problems with sensing voltage drops from lighting due to LED conversion. It showed fault, burned out light error. Does the Goldwing have a similar problem with lighting conversion?
If you think, a new post would be best, I can pursue that.

Re: LED Driving Lights
To the best of my knowledge the Gold Wing doesn't have that particular diagnostic ability to identify faulty bulbs. However if you do use LED bulbs for turn signals, you will get the fast flash. One way to defeat that is to leave one each bulb on each side, left and right, as standard tungsten bulbs. That should give enough load to prevent the fast flash.
If you would like to hear opinions other than just mine, which is probably a good idea, then yes you should make a separate topic. I've never had a GL1200 so getting a broader view of your situation would probably be beneficial.

Re: LED Driving Lights
If your dash has a 'Tail/Stoplight' light, then it will sense a low power draw (feature is on my '86 Aspy). Easy to find out if yours is equipped, pull the bulb out and see if you get a light on the dash while operating the bike.

Riding anything is a good day!
