won’t start once it’s warm

Post by Goldwing dream »

I have 86 GL1200a and it is the best starting bike ever when it’s cold. But after a couple hours driving shut it off let it sit an hour it will not start and the battery is 13.2 and really cranks over. It starts fine if on long trip and stop for gas, it starts right up. Just when it sit for 30 mins or more no start! Some times put the chock on it will start but has a hard time. Thanks guys if anyone can help me I would very happy to get this fixed! Thanks

I'm not sure how relevant this is to the goldwing, but I have a Vulcan 750 that doesn't like to start when it's warmed up. With those, it has to do with the poor placement of the R/R, it doesn't get enough airflow and tends to heat up and not function properly. I wonder if it's similar to that?

@ Goldwing Dream. My 86 SEi does that also. It'll start up for a few seconds and shut off when i twist the throttle. What I do to get it to fire up, I take a 20oz bottle of cold water and douse the fuel pump slowly and the fuel lines. I now keep 3 bottles of water in my side box for when it happens. Cheapest fix I ever did. Try that next time you can't get it to start. Who knows, it might work for you also.

It can also be pulse generators - they are known to not work well when warm when they are starting to fail.

Hmmm, didn't think of that. I did it this way because i was stuck in a handicap space at the supermarket and someone was waiting for me to pull out so they could pull in.
