GL1200 engine won't shut off

GL1200 engine won't shut off
The engine on my 85 GW seems to start and operate normally but when I turn the ignition key off it continues to run. It will run seemingly normally for quite a few minutes and the only way I can shut it down is to depress the starter switch! I am out of troubleshooting ideas - can anybody help? TIA for your comments

What about the kill switch, does that do anything?

I found the problem - really weird one. There was an after market wire (previous owner installed?) between the headlight center contact and the running light beside the headlight. Weird. Removed the wire, everything works. I have no idea so don't ask LOL. Now I will continue to wring out the wiring system looking for other "modifications". Thanks for your suggestion.
