Engine Block Differences

Hey folks,

Are there any differences between the engine blocks between years or fuel injected/carbureted models? I have a 1987 model with a damaged engine block and want to replace just the engine block. (Ran the engine without coolant) From what I have read, the fuel injected models have a larger stator cover, but does that make the engine block itself different? I assume (incorrectly?) that if I swap me existing parts and rear cover it shouldn’t be a problem. What about any extra sensors for the fuel injected models?
