I just put an 85 1200 Limited engine onto my 86 1200 SEi. The only thing you need to remember is when you go to replace engine parts, make sure you get the parts for the engine you installed, and not the year of the bike. Some of the parts are "engine specific" to the motors as i found out with my swap.

money, yes for the cost of the engine, but it bolted in. It was a direct swap to the frame. 1st pic is the old motor i took off the frame, and the 2nd pic is the new motor i put ON the frame. Last pic is after the motor and most of the bike put back together.
