i am a proud owner of the gl1000 and thinking of buying a gl1200 so the gl1000 will not feel lonenly.
there is a gl1200 that i went to see and there is one issue that made me feel uncomfortable: the clutch which is hydraulic and should be smooth was very hard to press and felt very "edgy"' if u know what i mean. the engaging range was very tight, unforgiving.
if someone understood me hahaha - any idea?
thx!!

Re: gl1200 clutch
the slave is probably gunked up. if the fluid has not been changed regularly, it will form "crystals" that will cause what you describe. rebuild the master cylinder, the slave and flush the hose. should be good to go for a long time.
good luck!

You might also want to consider replacing the clutch line, too. Those old rubber lines swell inside over the years and can cause problems as well.joecoolsuncle wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 6:36 am the slave is probably gunked up. if the fluid has not been changed regularly, it will form "crystals" that will cause what you describe. rebuild the master cylinder, the slave and flush the hose. should be good to go for a long time.

how difficult is to reach to the "slave"? ...when you say "slave" you mean the hydraulic that is mounted below on the clucth, right?

Re: gl1200 clutch
yes, the slave is the hydraulic that bolts to the clutch cover at the back of the engine. it can be removed without too much cursing. loosen and drain the clutch hose first, then remove the bolts that hold the slave to the clutch cover. search this forum for tips and reference a service manual BEFORE picking up the wrenches.
good luck! when you get her all fixed, post pics of riding a motorcycle in Israel!
