Best tyres for 1200

Post by gc33 »

G'day all from Perth western Australia.
This question has probably been done to death... But... I'm taking delivery soon of an 86 1200 aspy...33000kms on clock... And probably either the 2nd or 3rd set of tyres in its life still on it.
Needless to say....along with timing belts... Tires will need replacing.
So.. Let me have it... Open the can or worms..... What tyre has everyone experienced good performance and mileage from... :)

As these bikes are older you might be limited in what tires are available that will fit. Never owned a 1200, but I'm pretty much limited to the Dunlop D404 to fit the '80 1100. They give good service.

So what is available "Down Under" that will fit the bike? Might be cost-prohibitive to import... Then we can comment on best choice.

As it turns out, shinko and michelin both available so I've ordered a set of commander III's.
I've confirmed my transport co to pick up my bike on the 30th and they reckon I should have the bike on the 20th of next month. Happy days.

I am actually considering the D404 for my 1984 Aspencade - also because they can be delivered with white walls.

... however as an IT guy, I am a bit worried to fit tires called "404" (HTTP error code for "Page not found")
