85 interstate: carb air line question

what connects the the bottom of the airline between the carbs?

Here's a pic of some carbs I found on ebay:

It looks like you are talking about the line on the left of the pic that goes to each set of carbs from that circle thing.
Interesting you asked this question. I have an 87 interstate that I took off the carbs and it has this. I also have an 84 aspencade that I took off the carbs and the nipples are simply open to the air, not connected to anything.
