Question regarding the GL1200 Service Manual

Post by crazzy450z »

Good day everyone.. I have a silly question regarding the GL1200 service manual..
Its a well know fact that all GL1200's came with the linked brakes. So why does the service manual refer to a G type model that seems to not have the linked brakes. Please refer to the picture attached showing page 15-1 of the GL1200 manual.
It clearly shows
A) a front master cylinder of 15.8mm
B) a front right caliper with 32mm pistons
C) a rear master cylinder of 14mm

These are all parts of a split system. But for the life of me, I can't find any other reference to a G type model..
lol.. Did mother Honda loose their mind?? Inquiring minds want to know..

Odd, my FSM has none of those listed and only refers to a difference in Standard vs Int./Asp. on the front.
It must be an earlier version, as mine the Brakes is section 13 and there is no table as you show. Mine is copyright '87 covering '84 to '87.

I have the 84-87 OEM manual as well and it has a completely different format than the picture posted, which looks like an old-format Honda manual. Brakes are in a different section number, too. Not sure when it changed, but the master cylinder sizes in my manual are different.

Ok.. So this manual is dated 1984. Here's a shot of the front cover.. I guess they changed the format and info contained.
