rear brakes

Post by bigguy »

I just rebuilt the rear caliper on my 1984 Aspy. Now it won't bleed for me. I was wondering because it has integrated brakes, do I have to bleed the right front as well

Yes. And you should bleed the front first.

I have them bled right but still no brake. I didn;t have dot 4 and used dot 3 instead. Could that be my problem?

as dennis said, bleed front first. then move to rear. then move to master cylinder and bleed there, then go back to front, then back to rear. maybe a few more times.

yes. right front is connected to rear. also, FYI, you have to mash really hard and push rear pedal through because of propotioning valve. and DOT 3, 4, 5 will not matter, but mixing them will. if previous owner used something other than DOT4 ( they lie) then best to flush with alcohol and then fill with DOT4. WHY? because you forget, or you may sell, and DOT4 is whats in manual and on the M/C lid!

BTW, this indicates poor maintenance, you should go ahead and rebuild CLUTCH master, slave and flush hoses and refill with fresh fluid, yep, its fun to bleed too. i like budweiser, you may need something stronger if this is your firs time!!!!!!

I have found a MityVac to be the best money you can spend for this stuff.
And no, the other brands are not the same.

This is a great site. After bleeding what I thought was all the air out, I took someone"s advice and put a weight on the rear brake pedal and left it bleed over night. Got good brakes now, happy camper.
