dyna beads

Post by 86 goldwing »

still having problems with balancing my tires
installed new shinko tour master front and back on my 86 and on my brothers 85
we installed 2 ounces of bead in both front and back
we both have the same issue of a vibration at about 115 klm per hour
so we added about one more ounce to the front tire did not seem to help
i do feel more of a bounch under my seat
so thinking maybe i should add more beads to rear tire
anyone have thoughts on this idea

Did you make sure the yellow dot was at the valve stem?

hopping this will solve problem
as for you running at 115 per hour with a little vibration
i would not be complaining if i was that high of a speed
but thats almost double the speed im am running at
i am measuring in kilometers 115 is about 65 to 70 miles per hour
will up date when i get
more beads in tire

My experience has been that more beads is not the answer.

I had a vibration at about 70 mph on my GL1500 so I took off the wheel. I had a spare wheel/tire assembly with no beads. I balanced it and added the appropriate weight to balance it. I installed the assembly and test rode the bike. No vibration.

So, I broke down the original tire and wheel. I removed the beads and weighed them. There were 3.6 ounces of beads in the tire. I remounted the tire and static balanced the wheel/tire assembly. It took .5 ounces to balance it. I installed the wheel/tire assembly and did a test ride. No vibration.
I removed the lead weight and added 2 oz of beads and road tested again. No vibration.

So, more beads is not the answer. Less beads is the way to go. If the wheel and tire assembly is already close to balancing, adding too many beads will only make it out of balance. The excess beads have no where to go. Try adding one ounce at a time on problematic wheel/tire combinations.
