Re: LED conversion
Welcome to the forum.
LED bulbs are great. I have replaced nearly all of mine including one free set of headlight bulbs from the monthly contest on this form (Thanks again WingAdmin).
You should review the How-To articles link above as there are several good tips there. But (and a big but it is) I would strongly suggest you do a full evaluation and maintenance of your charging system. This is one of the weaknesses of the GL1200. The design places the main connector directly in the spot most likely to experience corrosion. Read through all the threads on stator, dreaded three yellow wires, and poorboy conversion. If your system is okay now, there are things you can do to prolong its life. If it's not working correctly now, this is where you need to spend your money. Note that the system is designed to dump excess AMPs so changing to LEDS can makes things worse rather than better.
BTW, the other two areas of concern are the timing belts and the driveline service. Very easy to change the timing belts; very expensive if one fails. Somewhat harder to pull the driveshaft and properly lubricate everything with required grease. Often ignored resulting in excessive wear to driveline components.

Re: LED conversion
If you plan on changing to LEDs, you should also switch from a shunt regulator to a series regulator. That and fixing the 3 yellow wire connections will ensure that your stator has a long and trouble-free life.
