No fuel help
Hello bike ran then stopped narrowed down no fuel. Can't tell if it relay or pump read bike needs be cranked for pump to work and carbs empty.
I replaced fuel filter was bad replaced fuel lines up to carb belive all trash stayed in filter
Problem I try crank bike there is gas in fuel pump but is not getting into carbs to run don't know if it needs to be primed or how to prime as bike will not crank to allow pump to prime
When bike was running all last week carbs sounded good bike ran good
How do I get gas to carbs if pump has to have spark running to pull gas from tank to carbs. Really need help
If fuel pump needs replacing is there any options from cars that I can look into to hopefully find something cheaper then $230

Re: No fuel help
Put a voltmeter on the power wire to the pump and see if there's any voltage while cranking.... Could be other issue besides the pump.

Re: No fuel help
They're supposed to tick, but not supposed to be "loud" although they get noisier with age.
The 1200 fuel pump is kind of a cycling "Solenoid" with plunger. The plunger pulls fuel from the tank when the solenoid is actuated, then when the solenoid releases the spring behind the plunger pushes the load of fuel at low pressure into the carbs. When the plunger has pushed all the fuel it had into the carbs and has reached end of travel it bumps into a switch contact which triggers the solenoid again. Thus the ticking.
I don't know if they are repairable, but there's many threads on the site about them.

You can tell easy enough if there's fuel in the carbs, loosen the drain screws on the bottom of the carb bowels.

Re: No fuel help
The fuel pump is required when the fuel tank gets below approximately half a tank, no more head pressure to flow fuel to the carbs. Fuel pump works all the time, but needs to be in the fuel system especially when the fuel tank gets low. The fuel pump operating pressure is approximately 3-4 PSI, not a lot. Do not use a fuel pump required for an FI model. FI model fuel pumps maintain a fuel system pressure upwards of 40 PSI or so using a fuel pressure regulator depending on the system design. The Gold Wing FI model fuel pump can deliver fuel at up to 60/65 PSI before the internal fuel pump pressure relief kicks in.
You can disconnect the fuel pump - install a temp line where the fuel pump is, fill the tank, and determine if fuel gets to the carbs, and the engine starts. Bench test the fuel pump.
Good luck.
