Casette player muted

Hi guys,

I recently got myself a GL1200 Aspencade with a lot of features including a casette player. For some reason the casette is heavily muted but the radio works just fine.
My mute button works, but needs some lubricant or contact spray, it seems to stick.

I have read some stuff about the casette not grounding properly and therefore being on mute. Any ideas ?

Try cleaning the heads of the player?

That was one of the first things I tried... but no luck so far.
