i got a 86' GL1200A with 44K. i have this knock. sounds like its in the transmission case. it goes away after you pull the clutch in..comes back when you throw it out..whats goin on here? simple adjustment? engine overhaul?

Re: knocking
Could be the clutch assembly, worn bearing or basket.

Re: knocking

Re: knocking
The release bearing and lifter, as well as the center assembly (containing the plates, spring and damper plate) can all be removed without pulling the engine. Only if the basket needs replacement does the engine have to come out.Gravity1073 wrote:thank you for your reply! i was thinking that and also what i was thinking was bearing knock. either way. engine has to come out..last thing i wanted to find out after i put the bike back together and fire it up for the first couple of times.

Re: knocking
If the bearings is worn the part will wobble and make noise.
