Fuel relay question

Post by DLWood »

Bad wiring to pump and relay caused fuel pump and relay to fail. Apparently has a short in wiring. Blows main 30 amp fuse located on starter relay. I installed a 4 pin relay and bypassed existing relay with hot off battery thru relay to pump. Used a hot off ignition thru relay to close relay with ignition. Pump is running as it should pressures up and shuts off. Now it won’t start. Acts like it’s not getting fire
My question is. When I bypassed to original fuel relay did that effect the coils in any way. Is an 84 GL1200i I need all the help you can give me. Thanks.

It depends on what was damaged. One coil is wired to the fuel pump relay as part of the safety system.

Rather than bypassing things, how about repairing the damage?
Bad wiring can't really damage the fuel pump, but it could hurt the relay as it is more than just a simple relay.
