1984 Golding 12 GL I does not fire up
1984 Golding 12 GL I does not fire up
I had my 1984 goldwind running good after cleaning/rebuilding carbs and new brakes. Rode it for a few miles then it quit, does not want to start. Seems like it is not getting any gas to the carbs once again. I replaced the fuel pump and filter (again) and used a temporary tank to see the fuel moving and hear the pump running. It just seems like the gas is NOT getting to the cylinders from the carbs. Does fire up and runs well with starting fluid. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thought I would ask before I dismantle the carbs and cleaned them again. I did replace both jets and floaters in all of the carbs when I first cleaned them.

All four carbs going out at once would be long odds. Add a fuel pressure gauge to watch what happens.
Have you opened the bowl drains to check for fuel at each carb?

Thanks, but I'm not sure how to check fuel pressure (where to hook it up and what the reading should be). Same for opening the drain bowls (where are the drain screws?)

To check pressure just tee into the main feed hose.

Had the same problem.
First check how much fuel your pump is really pumping. You can do in on the bike. I removed a fuel line that goes from pump to carbs... I put another line there, run it to 500ml bottle and short the pump to battery. Mine filled the bottle in 32 seconds. It has to pump at least 500ml of gas in one minute.
Then check if you got spark. Remove spark plugs one by one, put back into boot and let sit on the engine. Crank it to see if you got spark from of all of them.
If there's no problem there, it has to be carbs problem.

Update. I drained all carb bowls. Little to no gas drained. I cranked the motor/fuel pump and notice no gas would drain from the bowls. I then removed the fuel line where it connects to the carbs and used compressed air to blow out the carbs. After two or three times, gas started flowing out of the bowls. I reinstalled everything and it fired up right up. Idles and revs up very good. Must have been some blockage in the fuel pipe/carbs.
