1984 GL1200A won't start

Post by oilersfan123 »

I am stranded in Kalispell right now with a wing that won't start. I noticed very infrequently that the bike would sometimes not start after being ran for a while. Sometimes it would be resolved by pushing it, waiting, and pressing the starter button over and over again. The problem has gotten worse to the point now that it won't start at all. The funny thing is you can only hear the starter click when the bike is in neutral, if you have it in gear with the clutch in nothing happens (also new as of today). I don't know much at all about electrical problems so I'm wondering if anyone has had anything similar happen and if so how you resolved it. Thanks

There are worse places to get stranded than Kalispel...
Sometimes a no start can be as simple as a dirty starter button. A quick way to check that is to jump the starter at the starter solenoid. You know how to do that?

I had the same problem and found a blown fuse tucked up near where the battery sits. As you look at the battery compartment it’ll be in the top right of the battery compartment.

I am having the same problem. I have no power to the key. I checked the 30 amp fuse by the battery, and did you say there is another fuse in this area?
