A couple of days ago, the bracket that holds my evap canister to the frame broke and let it drop. It was attached to the bike only by the hose from the fuel cap. I cut it loose and threw the canister in the trunk, started the bike back up to see if it made any difference with out the canister. Started fine, idled fine, plenty of power, no problems at all except for the faint smell of gasoline when I parked the bike in the garage.
It's going to be a week or two before I can get the bracket fixed and back on the bike. Does anyone know if I might damage anything by not having the evap canister hooked up? Also, why do you think it was covered in soot?
Far as I can tell, this evap canister is for bikes that are destined for California. So I have my doubts about it being of any use at all except to satisfy some beaurocrats and add cost to the bike.
can I damage anything runnin w/o the evap can?.

Should not have any problem with running without it. You are right it is a California thing. Some people not living there remove them all together.

I'll bet a lot of people living here, in California, remove them, too.

Old post, I know, but was fixing to rebuild the clutch slave cylinder when I noticed this big ass can in my way. Can this be removed permanently and do a straight connection to PCV and AVCV? What about the line coming from fuel filler cap, leave open or plug or should I get a vented cap?

Only thing it will hurt is Californian feelings. The bike will run fine, and you'll save on some useless weight.evolbob wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 12:20 pm Old post, I know, but was fixing to rebuild the clutch slave cylinder when I noticed this big ass can in my way.
