Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
I am about an hour and a half from Reno. I should be back from my trip back east the first week of June if all goes well. Perhaps I can meet you in Reno. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
Sounds good.
Around the end of July, first part of Aug I've got to ride down to So. Cal to see family.
Sometime this year I've got to ride to Tennessee to see an old friend. I haven't figured out when yet. Maybe in May if things go right. Got lots on the calendar it seems.

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
OK, the CB is installed. Took about 6 hours to get it all done and back together. It receives fine and the transmit lite comes on, but I haven't hooked a helmet up to it yet. I am going to take it over to a local shop and have them set the SWR for $20 bucks. May have them change the Motorola antenna connection under the seat to a PL259 and then put some shrink tube over it. The Motorola connectors are almost impossible to find.
I still have to get the left handlebar cover buttoned up. I only added one small extra wire to it, but its being a PIA. I just ran out of gas today.........

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
Though Radio Shack's may be hard to find now since they decided to closes some of their stores, the PL-259/S0-239 to Motorola adapters could be found there. I am sure they are still available at other electronic supply stores. I bought mine at Radio Shack.
Here is one that is on Ebay but that won't help since I am sure you want it today. You would also need the Motorola plug to have a complete set.
You could always cheat and use a car radio antenna extension but the cable is 75 ohm impedance and the CB line is 50 ohm impedance.

Yeah, RS had the male but not the female. By the time I pay $40 for a meter and $4 bucks each for the adapters, if I can find them, I would rather just go have the guy set the SWR for $20 bucks and be done with it. Who knows when I will ever use an SWR meter again.

Oh. I thought you said you had an SWR meter around there somewhere. If you do not have one then yes, the best course is to have some one do it for you.

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
I will probably be coming up for that too. I went ahead and joined the GWRRA for a year to see how I like it. The closest chapter is in Sacramento which is a little more than 50 miles away.
Got the SWR set on the CB. The guy cut a bunch off the antenna. Now it seems to work OK. May take a bite of a day trip with it in a week or so. But so far, everything seems to work fine. Then I went ahead and ordered a CB handheld mic kit from Amazon.

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
I'm not too surprised that he had to cut some off of the antenna. From what I have seen, most Goldwing owners don't bother having the SWR checked and adjusted. I don't think it is because they are lax, I think it is just that they don't know or don't care what the SWR is. Besides, if the SWR is below 2.0:1 it is acceptable and most of them are already there before any adjustment is made.

Re: Adding a CB to 99 Aspencade
I have been reading about the ptt switch hook up here. I took the ptt off an 88 and it was hooked up in two places. 4 wires under left handle bar cover and the other i think to a plug bank under left fan? Im installing a cb on a 93 apencade which had a cb at one time.
My question is what is the easiest way to get to the plug bank by left fan for the ptt hook up? Remove radiator, fan.. ect.???
I found all other connections for cb

Those plug banks (there's one on either side) require a large amount of disassembly to get to - fairing, radiator, fan.KerryOkie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 10:15 am I have been reading about the ptt switch hook up here. I have successfully worked on them by accessing them through the side reflector/light once it has been removed. It takes a bit of finagling and skinned knuckles, but it can be done.
