CORNERING LIGHTS / DRIVE LIGHTS

Post by Jegrover1 » Sat Aug 01, 2015 2:24 am

I have read these lights described as both drive lights and cornering lights. They are the clear ones in front of the engine. So here's the question : My right one comes on only when I use the right turn signal - However, the left one is on all of the time . . . Don't know which one is right or which one needs fixing and what is wrong it the ones that is correct... Any ideas out there?

I believe they are only supposed to come on when turn signal is engaged, hence the term "cornering light". Admin has a piece on how to modify to "running light" which simply entails some wire and led bulb mods.

Made2care is right. The early 15's had cornering lights that came on with the signals. In 96 or 98 they turned them into driving lights. You can turn them on all the time, but it won't help you see better at night. It'll just make the bike look bigger coming toward you.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

Actually, the later model SE had them on at all time. The Aspencade was the one with the cornering lights. You might have a stuck or corroded relay on yours or, if you are not the original owner, it may have been re-wired wrong by the PO. I think the connectors for the cornering lights are on the frame down tubes close to the lower cowl near the lights. You'll have to remove the cowl to find out.

The Aspencade did not come with those lights, they were stock on the SE, they came on with the turn signals until 98 when Honda made them running lights, they came on with the headlights. I had a 92 Aspencade that I added them to, I aslo had a 98 SE that they were stock on and running lights, and now my 97 SE has them from Honda and they are cornering lights, they come with the urn signals.

Interesting, my '89 has them. But of course there is no telling what the PO did to the bike. It has just about every piece of fake chrome farkle you can imagine.

Mine have been rewired so that they are on all the time or they were installed that way... It's an '89 Aspy.

The wire harness was there to connect them on all 1500's but the SE was the only one that came stock from Honda with them. When I put them on my 92 I wired them to an on/off switch and used them as running lights

Re: CORNERING LIGHTS / DRIVE LIGHTS and POSITION LIGHTS

Gents,

I am resurrecting this thread as I had a light burn out on my driving lights. I say driving lights, and not cornering lights because I have a 98 SE, and from what I have read in this thread, these are always on for my SE.

What bulb should I put into this light? I'd prefer to go LED, and a bit brighter if possible.

Also, the position lights on my SE (the ones on either side of the headlight) are both out. When are they supposed to be on? There is a previous owner installed switch on my key panel that perhaps turns them on/off... I don't know. In any event, I'd want them on, LED, and as bright as possible. Recommendations appreciated.

Finally, my headlights are working fine but if I'm going to pull all this out, I'd either like to go with a slightly higher wattage bulb or to LED's. Can anyone recommend the best LED setup for this scooter?

Many thanks.

I replaced the cornering lights in my '93 with these 50 Watt (eqv) LEDs, they light up the road real nice. Mine are converted to "Always On".

They also have these for position lights, also 50 watt LED. Haven't tried them yet....

I also put those lights that DenverWinger linked to on my Goldwing. They look good and are very bright to oncoming traffic to help you be seen. The color of these lights match the color of their LED headlights that I also installed at the same time. Well actually, I used the 25 watt version of the position lights. They have both a 25 and a 50 watt version of the LED position lights.

I've got both of those lights in my GL1500, as well as the LED headlight. The color matches across all three of them, which is nice.

I put both of these 50W types on my '89 Goldwing before getting the LED Headlight Kit by Electrical Connection from Cyclemax.com. With the halogens, it looked ridiculous! Somehow, the LEDs just sealed the deal. It looks a whole lot better now.

FYI: Cyclemax also has the new and improved Pathfinder LED headlight kit from SoCalMotoGear as well.
