Re: Cruise Control Failure
Could be the contact under brake lever. Try to push out on lever and listen for a click. If you hear it you have found the problem. While riding I just push out on lever before setting cruise and all is good.

Re: Cruise Control Failure
I would definatley try the lever thing first. Have the levers been changed from the originals as if they have then this does cause some problems with the micro switches in the bars. There was also something about a blown fuse or something like that. It wasn't to do with the cruise control, it was something else but it knocked out ther cruise control. THe indicators still come on but it just won't kick in. Can't remember of hand exactly what it was for now but hopefully someone will come along and answer it.

I didnt forget the explanation, however I tried to attach a file to the quote and failed miserably. I have e-mailed jlwilson498 asking him for his e-mail address so I can send him the file. If I send the complete fault finding as a reply to the quote it will be like reading a book.

Re: Cruise Control Failure
Hi,
I am a new member and looking forward to being part of this group. I bought my 1500 in June and really enjoying the ride. But I have been a Honda fan for years.
I too would like a copy of the cruise control trouble shooting file. Mine does not work and all the switches are working now on my clutch, gas, brake, etc. Now I am at a loss. I did buy a Vista Cruise that fits the 1500 perfectly, with no adjustments.
Thanks, Bonnie

Re: Cruise Control Failure
The switches have all been checked and the clutch lever and assoc. parts replaced. I can hear the clicks at all the switch points. It shows that it is on but will not set.
Thanks,

Re: Cruise Control Failure
I went for a ride on the interstate yesterday, and tried to use my cruise control. It was no problem before yesterday...
The indicator light says it's on when I turn it on. I got up to speed, and set it. The indicator light says it's set, but the cruise control never engaged!
Before that, the cruise control would set at a max speed of about 73-74 mph
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Cruise Control Failure
Thank you for the trouble shooting guide. I found a Vista Cruise that is made for the 1500 GW. It is not like using the oem cruise control but for under $15.00, I can't complain. I will be using this for awhile.

Re: Cruise Control Failure
Hi everyone, I had a 95gl1500 I bought new I had a cruise problem once, It,s usually the rear brake pedal switch. Being that it,s in a dirt prone area it,s a separate switch from the rear brake and it,s not very easy to get to. I followed the two wires from it and jumpered them out to isolate the problem, System should work fine if this is the faulty switch. Mine was road dirt accumulated on the switch cleaned it good with contact cleaner worked good. Anyway good luck to You.

Re: Cruise Control Failure
Dad taught me to check the easiest thing to do first and it worked!!
I fixed it by squeezing the clutch all the way to the handlebars, and letting it snap out. Only had to do it once and since then, the cruise has been fine!
But I sure wish there was a way to override to limit so that I can cruise at 80-85 when traffic around me is doing the same thing! Does anyone know how to override the limits? I'll take full responsibility, not that I would be around if I crashed at that speed anyway! ha!!

Re: Cruise Control Failure
i also have a 96 and occasionally the cruise will not set. My problem is the clutch lever is not coming out far enough to activate (or) deactivate the switch so it can be set. I merely apply a light pressure to the underside of the lever and it will set. Depressing the clutch lever will disengage the cruise control.

Re: Cruise Control Failure
The Cruise Control portion of the Service Manual is found in the chapter called "Fuel System". It starts on page 4-61.
Getting the manual is simply a matter of going to pdftown.com and typing GOLDWING into the search line and then downloading it. If you can't manage to get it there send me a PM with your email address and I'll see what I can do to help you get the manual.
