New speakers/radio/amp??

Post by jimduffenais »

Hey everyone...hope your season is going well. I recently upgraded my 3 ohm oem 10 watt 4.5" speakers with 120 watt 4 ohm speakers. It sounds better but the oem 1500 radio/amp just doesnt thump them the way they should.
I was wondering...is it possible to either ...
A- upgrade the stereo by removing the oem and put in a new deck in its place? Without losing the oem cb and clutch side radio controls??

B-option 2...add a new 4 channel amp to run off the existing oem radio to power the new speakers? Again...without losing the afore mentioned cb/hand controls.

Thanks for any advice.

You could very easily put an aftermarket amplifier with speaker-level inputs on it. The existing radio speaker wires go into the amplifier, the amplifier then powers the speakers. Basically the amplifier goes between the radio and the speakers.

I put jbl premium 4.5 speakers in mine with an alpine compact amp hard wired in and it will blow your head off! Albeit mostly treble it still sounds good
