Odometer reset button

Post by tvanvran »

The Odometer reset button is stuck on my 1994 goldwing aspencade. Is there anyway to free it up without taking the whole front end apart. I doesn't depress all the way either to reset the numbers. I have had to manually pull the button out to have it work.

It's suppose to have a rubber boot over the button, check and see if the boot is damaged or binding up. when I had my 92 wing the boot on that button broke and at that time Honda did not sell the the button or the boot separate, you had to buy the entire glass unit

You don't have to pull the whole front end off! 8-) But you do need to pull the mirrors, the windshield, and the dash panel in order to get to the screws to remove the instrument panel glass. 8-) I reset mine every time I fill up with fuel and it does get stuck once in a while. When it does, I just tap the button, ride for a few miles and try again while I'm moving. This has worked so far. 8-)

Do all 1500s have this rubber boot?
I got my '99 used and there is no boot over the button.
So far it still works fine.

Rubber thing is outside the glass, over the metal pin. And nothing holds it in place, so I have used a small amount of adhesive over the pin. Maybe yours is lost, but you can make one for yours using similar things, once I had used the push button of a pen for my car.

If the rubber piece is not the culprit, then I don't recommend you use it until you would fix it by removing the speedometer gauge from the instrument cluster.

Once I had removed the speedometer to grease the gears and when I reinstalled it in place I had noticed that the pin was stuck. When I removed the unit once more I saw that the pin was not aligned over the piece inside the gauge and it was preventing the gears from turning freely.

If I remember correctly the rubber boot goes in from the back of the glass, it has a lip that holds it behind the glass, but they do get weathered and break. I think the one on 92 broke after about 6 or 7 years.

On my bike there are two separate pieces, one is over the pin and the other one fits into the hole on the glass. I don't know if they were originally one piece or not.

Mine always worked great, until the last time I had the dash apart to replace LEDs. I put it all back together, mounted it back in the bike, put the bike back together...and discovered that the trip odometer reset button now sticks in, and has to be pulled back out. I'm not disassembling the whole dash again just for that, so I'll fix it the next time I'm in there. :)

In the picture it shows the glass as #7 but no separate number for the rubber boot

Old thread, I know. But I took my dash apart to replace all the lights. When I put it back together, the button was stuck. All it took to get it back to normal was to loosen the screws fastening the speedometer to the dash and evenly retighten them, going back and forth between the two.
