Brake Rotor

Post by jwebfournow » Tue Dec 05, 2017 7:50 pm

Hi all!
I have a question regarding a rear brake rotor, I have done some reading here, I just want to verify before I start ordering parts, I just recently picked up this 89 wing that has been sitting for awhile, 90k miles, now runs pretty good after putting in a new fuel pump. I am finding more maintenance items I need to take care of, rear brakes did not work at all would not pump up so I figure needs bleeding, well that doesn't seem to be the problem, I tried and tried bleeding left front and also the rear it no go even after I took the rear caliper apart and cleaned, pistons were extended way out, pads were worn down to nothing, mic'd the rotor out comes in at 4.99mm, so I have come to the conclusion that the rear master needs to be rebuilt, also needs the rear rotor, I have been reading about owners changing the rotors to a later model gl1500 anywhere from 91-2000, I understand the rotors are different from 88-89 than the 90-2000, I also have read that all I would have to change is the caliper bracket then get the later model rotor and it should fit, is this correct? L have started to tear down to get to the rear master let me tell you what a pain it is but that's another story.

Yes, that` all.
I have updated my wing and if I remember right, 99-00 rear rotor is 316mm.
88-89 rear is 296mm, same as all front discs are 296mm.
New rear 88-89 and 90-00 thickness is 8mm, all new front 6mm. At least with EBC rotors, not sure of Honda oem.
