I am going to rebuild my carbs on my 97 gl1500se. I have an official shop manual that I am using to prepare for the rebuild. In one place of the manual, (pg 4-28) it states to adjust the float height to 8.0 mm and another place in the manual, (pg 2-3) it states 7.5 mm. What is the correct measurement?
Thanks
Jim

I think 7.5 mm is right but I'm no expert. You are right though, the manual does state two different measurements for it.

I don't think 1/2 mm is going to matter, hard to get them adjusted perfect anyway so just shoot for in the middle.
Re: 1997 GL 1500SE CARB FLOAT SETTING
I have a 1994 SE that was starving for fuel. Found that my floats were set at about 12mm. I adjusted them to 8mm (as close as I could) and that has solved the problem. It helps tremendously to have a good float level gauge.

Just another example of shop manual inaccuracies, omissions and errors. 7.5mm is the correct spec.jim34481 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 9:44 amI am going to rebuild my carbs on my 97 gl1500se. Re: 1997 GL 1500SE CARB FLOAT SETTING
working on carb float height for '96. Attached photo shows float measurement tool in place and gap between tool and float body due to distance that the float-end-cap protrudes beyond the float body ( right side of photo )
the edge of the end-cap on the float protrudes ( ~1 mm ) beyond the float body. is the float height measurement expected to include the distance the end-cap protrudes beyond the float body?
.. or when measuring float height, should an adjustment be made for the distance between float body and edge of the end-cap?
