Anyone know if early 1800 levers will fit a 1989 gl1500 ?

As far as I can tell. . . . No. They have totally different part numbers on Honda’s parts list as well as at aftermarket retailers.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

Yes, that's correct. But, I've just picked up a stem lock washer off a new ish model Honda that's exactly the same as mine. The 'correct' one for mine was out of stock. The reason being, I want some adjustable levers, and they're just not available in uk. But 1800 are. Shipping costs from states is a feckin joke.

I can not 100% verify this because my friend is not answering his phone but, I remember him telling me that he installed a set of adjustable levers on his fathers GL1500. They came from a GL1800 and it required no modifications, it was a direct bolt on.

Here is a picture of his clutch lever, we were doing an air filter replacement at the time this picture was taken.

Thanks Mike. Any update would be appreciated. I believe.....the clutch lever will swap over with no problems. I'm not sure about brake side though. Seem to remember it doesn't activate switches properly ?

I'll check into it and get back to you. I've left a voice mail for him with the question.

I confirmed that the clutch lever Works. However he never tried to install a brake lever.

So the jury is still out as to whether the brake lever from an 1800 will work on a 1500.

Ok Mike, thanks for checking. I just found an old post where clutch lever was fitted, but the master cylinder was swapped over from the 1800 for the brake lever. I've ordered a pair of cheap 1800 copies and see if they will fit, or if they can be modified. I'll put up a response when I get the chance to try, probably in a couple of weeks.
