trying to get screw caps off fairing screws

Post by marsman » Fri May 04, 2018 12:47 pm

I'm trying to get the screw caps off like the one indicated in the attached photo. This is an '89 Goldwing. One post I saw indicated that these screw on, others seem to say you just pry them off. I'm having no luck either way. Can anyone clarify whether they screw on or not? And are they plastic or metal? I tried turning them with double stick tape, prying with a dental tool, tried with pliers but couldn't really get in there. I've spent about 4 hours now just trying to get one cap off. I really don't care if I destroy the cap getting it off, but I'd rather not destroy the trim strip.

It pries off, kind of like a snap on your coat pocket, use a small screwdriver behind it. Don't be surprised if it breaks.

OK, thanks, I was able to pry them off. The plugs seem to have survived ok. Some little marks on the chrome trim, but I guess that's unavoidable.
