LCD / Air Pump Problems
I have a ‘99 GL1500. The bike itself is in great shape. The only problem I’m having is the lcd. I have no display as far as time or radio settings. The radio works, tape player works, etc. I just can’t see it. Also my on board air pump doesn’t work. Also the lcd DOES light up. Doesn’t have the creeping circle. Just no display. I’ve seen others post about a fuse loose or blown? I have the bike in pieces right now doing some maintenance and replacing tires so now is a good time to figure it out. Any ideas would be very helpful.

Sounds like a stupid question, but my '97 used to behave exactly the same way. The problem was supposed to be peculiar to '96 and '97, but maybe you got "lucky". There was a know issue for those years, where exactly those symptoms would occur. After driving down the road a ways, the display would come to life and air pump function would come back. You say your bike is in pieces. If the ignition and gauge cluster is still in place, try blowing WARM air up under the headlight toward the gauges for several minutes with a hair dryer. If your display comes back, you may have found your issue. Also, the air pump function will return after the display is back.
Mine did that for the first 6 years I owned it. Parked overnight. Humidity creeps in and the display is gone. Drive 5-15 minutes down the road. Poof. Display and all function is back. The only solution I found was to replace the gauge cluster with a new one.
Just out of curiosity, are your gauges white ?

5 amp fuse for the stereo memory (radio stations) and the clock still good? Does your stereo still remember your preset stations after the bike is turned off?

Yes the gauges are white. I live in central Texas so heat and humidity are no stranger to me hah! The issue has never been intermittent. I simply get nothing. I don’t know if there’s a relay involved? The lcd IS backlots and no circle which I understand is completely separate to it’s actual function.Bluewaterhooker0 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 12:20 amHow's the humidity level around your parts ?Burban02 wrote: ↑Tue May 08, 2018 7:29 am I have a ‘99 GL1500. I think the fuse he is referring to is fuse #13 in the fuse box. It is a 5 amp fuse labeled "Back Up". It is under the relays and not with the other group of fuses. You will probably have to loosen or remove the left saddle bag to be able to access them.

I had the same symptoms (I live in the Pacific Northwest, so extremely damp conditions are normal here). If I leave the bike parked for a lengthy period of time (say, days or weeks) the LCD acts up. Once the bike's heated up from running, it usually comes back after about 20 minutes or so. Generally, though, I still have some items on my display (no radio stations shown, no
Another issue that can cause a myriad of similar issues is the infamous GL1500 relay #3.
Try this - uncover the relay panel (you'll have to at least loosen the left side saddlebag bolts to get access) & rap on relay #3 with the handle of a screwdriver. In my case, that brought everything instantly back to normal. After that happening a couple of times, I got new relays from WingAdmin to cure the problem permanently.
Just a thought, anyway. My rule of thumb is "Always try the easiest, cheapest things FIRST!"

I like your style! Relay 3 ok I’ll try that as well. Seems like it has to be easy. Something just isn’t getting power

That relay #3 has been the source of many, many weird issues on GL1500's. At various times, mine caused the ignition to stay on when the key was out
, clock losing or gaining time, radio station & rear suspension pressure information missing entirely, inexplicable lighting gremlins, etc. etc. It's my go-to check whenever something on the bike spikes my "weird-stuff-o-meter".
Hope it works for you! If it does, you NEED to contact WingAdmin about picking up 2 or 3 replacement relays (the bike uses a bunch of them, they're all the same, and they're specific to the GL1500), as he's pretty much the only known source on the planet for them. Plus, his price is VERY reasonable. I carry two spares in the saddlebag...

Re: LCD / Air Pump Problems
My first 97 had this problem. I fixed it by taking the dash panel apart to access the LCD and the ribbon wire that connects
to it. I sealed the ribbon wire with a spray ignition sealer that I got at the local auto parts store. I never had the issue again. I found this remedy on a Goldwing site years ago and it worked for years until the bike got totaled.
