1995 cruise control out.

I have a new to me 1995 aspencade. The cruise on light comes on when button is pushed however the set light doesn’t and it will not set and cruise. Does the bike have to be in 4th or 5th gear for the set light to work or should the light come on whenever set is pushed. I have the complete trouble shooting guide but I’m just looking for some hints where to get started and if it can be tested in the garage? I have ridden it at speed in 4th and 5th and no go.thanks.

Yes, it has to be in 4th or 5th gear in order to engage, and you have to be above 30 mph. So you can't really test it in the garage.

Make sure your clutch and brake levers are pushed out all the way - if they are pulled in even the tiniest bit, they will hit the cruise disconnect switches, and you won't be able to set cruise. Same goes for the brake pedal.
