carbs

Post by shortster » Thu Aug 02, 2018 10:24 am

I have a 97 gl 1500 that acts like the carbs need to be cleaned. I am looking for someone near western NC that can do the job. If anyone knows of a good mechanic within a couple of hours away I would like some contact info, or recommendations of somewhere to check for service.

Have you checked the "Vendors" board? That may give you some idea. If you do find one, please add it to the board.

Before you do that I'd try some seafoam..a couple of tanks with appropriate amount added..might help it out quite a bit. You can also get to the carbs with a little effort at least to see if they are working well. Like changing the air filer gets you there..

At that age they need a rebuild.

I did my 98 last year and trust me ALL the rubber parts were wayyyy over due. Highly recommend the Randakks kit, its all Viton. Also while in there, at minimum trim back ALL the vacuum tubes for a fresh bite. Consider a new Fuel cut valve diaphragm as well.

I do occasional work on others Gl1000 and gl1500's but don't advertise. Are you looking for someone to do the entire Job or are you able to handle removing them yourself and just need someone to rebuild?

I have a Home in Franklin, Just south of you, and go there often, but actually live in Central AL...would offer to help, but would need more details....Sorry would not be able to help while in the Franklin area, as I stay busy up there doing a remodel, as well as have all my stuff for such work in AL.

If at all interested you can reach me at mkc_1962 @ yahoo.

Thanks for the reply. I have a guy looking at the bike right now and trying to diagnose what has to be done. May be in touch with you later if this don't work out, looks like a problem that will be hard to locate.
