Heres my new money pit lol

Post by MarkZ28 »

Got an 88 GL1500, needsa lot of little stuff. Mechanically it seems good other than a weak front brake. It needs cosmetic stuff, electrical stuff that includes dead radio, cb, air pump, cruise, and probably more. Odometer doesnt work nor the lcd in the dash. Probably try to find a working assembly somewhere. Im planning on doing the timing belts also, one of the first things. It needs antennas. Right side crash bars need replaced, previous owner tipped it over whike stopped. Tried to use the center stand and it was very easy, better than my 94 Magna, lol. Im planning on going to get it Wednesday. Got it mainly so my fiance could ride with me. Magna is too small. The GW will stomp the Magna in a straight line no doubt. Magna will out corner it and looks sportier of course. I had to get it together from boxes. Sat in a chicken barn for probably 10 years apart. That was my winter project. Heres so.e pictures of the next winter project.

Heres the Magna.

great bike but Not a 88. Look at steering stem label and VIN.

Check wire harness and connections and grounds before buying new things.

Color is wrong for 88. Maybe 89 or 90. Also 88 is the only year with a "1500/6" emblem on the back where yours says "HONDA"

if the LCD panel is bad, none are available anywhere except in the resale market.

however, there is a company that is making brand new ones.

What is the 10th digit of the VIN? If it is a "J" then you have an 88.

Nice looking wing! Congrats and your reasoning for buying a Wing is the same as mine, the Magna is just to uncomfortable for 2 up long rides. I even added a Mustang seat to mine, it helped but still get sore after and hour or so. Here is a picture of my 2002 Magna. Are you a member of the v4Musclebike.com Forum? I am a member on a couple Magna sites, V4musclebike is one. Magna is a fun light bike to throw around the corners.

On the title and bill of sale, the 10th letter is a J. Will be pickimg the bike up in a couple hours, will verify it then. Who knows if body psnels havent been swapped from another bike.

Verified that it is an 88, says so on the frame and the vin shows it also. Someone removed something from the back of the left saddle bag. Looks like it was repainted also, probably the reason it is the wrong color.
Got a new Clymer and brand new, never worn XL Bell full face helmet. Even has the transition face sheild. Rode it home about 100 miles. Smooth and qiuet. Got up to 80 mph and didnt even realise it, lol. Still has some hesitation when first cracking the throttle, going to put a can of Berrymans in the tank to hopefully help it. No big deal, still runs great.
