Now What? Oil Seal Replacement

Post by okie2ee » Sun Oct 28, 2018 2:38 pm

I got started on the shifter shaft oil seal replacement...............received my flex socket set today, but that still didn't work.............so ended up taking the next shield off behind the shifter shaft and that really opened everything up and made the bolt removal much easier. My trike doesn't have the side stand so made shield removal much easier. Got the bolt removed and started on shaft removal just like the tutorial said and then it happened...........I can't get it off the shaft............not sure what to do next.........will be waiting for suggestions on what I will need to do to get the shifter arm removed(please, no acetylene torch ideas)..........thanks

I can't get enough clearance to get the arm removed, no matter which way I wiggle the shifter arm and shaft. Why me? It sounded so easy in the tutorial.

Several others have experienced the same problem when trying to remove that shifter arm. Here is a few links describing how you might handle it.

Thanks for your information............without it I wouldn't have known which direction to proceed. Turns out that the frame comes apart on the left side just behind the foot rest........so was able to loosen the frame and remove the motor mount bolt and pry the frame outward and that was enough to get the shifter arm off. I will post what I did later on..........thanks again for the help.

I posted a new article "How to Remove Shifter Arm Blocked by Frame Tube" which covers my experience with getting the shifter arm removed.

Did you mean to attach the article to the "how to install the shifter brace" or did you mean to attach it to the "how to install the shifter oil seal" article, since the article was in reference to the oil seal replacement. Just checking.............thanks

I actually put it on its own, and linked to it, as it is applicable to multiple other articles.
