List of GL1500 bulb types & quantities

Post by Sadanorakman » Thu Jan 10, 2019 7:56 am

Hi folks,

Is there a concise list anywhere of the original OEM bulb base-types, wattages and quantities for the whole GL1500 bike?

I'd like to start ordering in some LED lamps so I've got them ready to swap out. I appreciate with the indicators, I may have to add power resistors strapped to the bike's frame to create a correcting resistive load, and also for dash light replacement add small resistors for several dash lights like the low fuel light, cruise etc...

My 1991 SE has the fresnel-lens lower-fairing running lights, (not wired as cornering lights), not the later 'driving' lights.

This is kind of what I mean...

-Headlamp: H4 x 2 45W/45W
-front side lamp: xxxxxx. X2, 10W
-cornering lamp: H6M X 2 35W
-indicators lamps: xxxx X 4, 21W
-front side marker lamps: xxxxxx
-rear pannier side marker lamps: xxxx
-dash illumination lamps
...

Anyone already done the sluething?

Regards

I'm not able to verify this right now, but I think what you want is listed on this page

http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-g ... ost2877415

if you go to CycleMax.com and enter 'bulb' in the search box, it will bring up a picture and part number for all the bulbs

I have this link showing https://cyclemax.com/inc/searchresults? ... b&n=766283

You will have to scroll down thru several pages to find all of the different OEM bulbs.
that list also includes the LED replacements for them.

If you already have your bike taken apart just take pictures of the bulbs and go the cyclemax site AZgl1800 provided.

This is what I have found so far:

Part Name Part Number Cost qty. Total Cost
LED Headlights (6000K Color) SCMG158897 $ 110.00 1 $ 110.00 www.cyclemax.com
LED Cornering Lights SCML50WC-2 $ 25.00 2 $ 50.00 www.cyclemax.com
LED Postion Lights SCMT1050W $ 22.50 2 $ 45.00 www.cyclemax.com

I am also planning on upgrading to LEDs for the headlights position lights, cornering lights, and possibly the side marker lights. Not sure yet if I want my cornering lights to be daytime lights since I already have these installed:

I just need to convert/change these to LEDs

Thank you, but no I haven't started stripping my bike yet. This was the whole point of my original post really, so I could purchase the lamps up front, and have them all ready to go for when I started disassembling her. Otherwise I'm going to have her in pieces for weeks whilst I wait for parts to ship and arrive.

I guess I'll just go the latter route, and then I can document a list and share it as I take her apart.

Thanks again.

Hopefully I can get to do some work on my wing this weekend and I will take pictures of the bulbs. I already have her in pieces because of all the work I have been doing and have several months of no riding due to cold weather and snow.

Another quick option is go to www.hondapartshouse.com and find the diagrams for the areas the lights are in and then Google the part number. Hopefully a picture of the light will show up.

In addition it is my understanding the side marker lights are aftermarket installs, not sure if there were different types out there but I think you can get to those lights easily just by taking off the reflective cover.

My earlier response does provide the LED replacements for the headlight, positioning lights and cornering lights from www.cyclemax.com.

Not sure if I will be pulling the back end apart just yet but will see if I can get to the lights easily enough.

What a Superb resource! Thank you! I'm already ploughing into the content there.

Thank you for linking to, and providing photos of the cornering lamp bulb at cyclemax Doug... They are one weird bulb! The Headlight H4 though... that's pretty standard over here for 80's/90's vehicles, before designs moved on to individual filament H7's, and more exotic HID's etc...

After looking through the resource you pointed to at hondapartshouse, it is evident that all the other lamps are mainly 'normal' auto bulbs, so I might as well just source them within the UK rather than importing from the US. I didn't know this, as I haven't removed a single bulb from my old gal yet.

There is so much choice though. Just a quick look through ebay brings up so many designs of 21-watt flasher replacement bulbs:

Sure each will be different in brightness and longevity, and some will not fill the reflector properly so producing unsightly hotspots. particularly the one in the top right hand corner with the circle of 5mm traditional dome-topped LED's all pointing in the same direction.

I quite like the look of this Osram lamp. It seems to throw all the light backwards at the reflector instead of straight outwards. Philips have a similar product:

Unless anyone else has any experience, I guess I'm just going to have to order a few and try them. Many of these are available in the appropriate Red, Amber, or White.
