MadStad on a GL1500

Post by RockportDave » Sat Feb 16, 2019 3:22 pm

My MadStad windshield showed up at home almost 2 weeks ago, but I’ve been stuck in Houston working and haven’t had the opportunity to see or install it and the Unobtainium 2.0 from Bluthundr31 (thanks go out to Dennis. It showed up within a few days after ordering it). I’ll be headed home next Thursday and plan to install both while there. Rain is in the forecast for Saturday so I plan to find some rain and see how the MadStad reacts in the rain.
I’ll post a review of dry and wet riding with the MadStad hopefully next weekend. I hope the wife has time to participate in the review ride also. She had commented on the buffeting wind she gets on the back and that was one of the reasons for trying the MadStad, along with the ability to see over the windshield.

got in the rain once with my Madstad, I had to raise it up a bit, from the down low on the bottom setting.

John,
How tall is your MadStad and how tall are you if you don’t mind my asking?
I’m 5’9” and ordered the 12” light gray.

I'm 5' 11" or used to be in my youth

at 275# and I think I chose the 14" screen, not the tallest one.
I just used the chart that they supply and went with that.

I won't be home until tonight, over in Arkansas right now.

Will get a pix and measurements when I get home.

when it is down, I have about 4 inches of "open view" to the road, but the wind still goes up and over my helmet.

Thanks John,
I ordered mine from Cyclemax, 12” in light gray. I’m 5’9” and want to see over the top of it. In the South Texas summers we ride late afternoon and night a lot because of the heat so I didn’t want it too dark, but the light gray is supposed to cut down on some sun glare.
Thanks also for helping with the Unobtainium 2.0. I wanted one from Firecreek, but missed the boat on them. From what I’ve read it looks like Bluthundr31’s are a better upgrade. Glad I couldn’t get the Firecreek now.

I chose clear because my Shoei helmet has a dark screen that drops down to help with sun glare...

also, if I ever get caught having to drive after dark, I need all the visibilty I can get if looking thru it....

at full height, it is just above my eyeline about 2 inches.
I have the Honda screen adjusters at the bottom... the Madstad still has a full range as I describe.

I am also going to buy a pair of Aviator driving glasses with Amber/yellow tint this week..... my trip to Arkansas in full cloudy weather both ways, make it very evident that normal shades don't cut the mustard..... I had to drive w/o any glasses at all, just dropped the visor down so the glare did not hit me so hard.

I haven't seen anyone disclose what the price of this windshield is. What are they asking for it? I had cut my windshield down so that I could see over the top of it while riding. I don't know if it is original or aftermarket. I get a buffeting, which translates to noise in my helmet. I usually wear ear plugs, but still get the buffeting noise. If this windshield solves the buffeting noise issue, I'd be extremely interested in getting one. I have a '92 GL1500SE, and I'm 6'3", so any recommendations on the best size windshield for me would be welcome. I'd like to see over the windshield, but still have some adjustability to raise for cold weather, or lower for hot weather. Thanks,
Frank

I bought mine through Cyclemax for $279.95 and free shipping over $199. They do not stock it, but I received it within a week. They have good information on tint choices and height.
My understanding is you can contact MadStad direct and order it from them. They will answer the phone and discuss options with you.
