thanks for note....I'm definitely missing something! The shield hits the spring holder at the back of the kickstand.

I had the same problem trying to remove the chrome ones that came on the bike when I got it. Checked the service manual. I had to drop the exhaust to remove it. It amazes me how much money people will spend to add chrome. I replaced the round gaskets when I did it. They were not expensive.

There is a bolt hidden deep to get the middle piece off.
Replace the shift shaft seal while you have them off too and if you don't have the shifter brace yet, get one and put it on for far better shifting. One of our members made these up.
