that seems like a lot for just a phone charger. is your volt meter tied straight to your battery or does it feed off an accessory or even the accessory fuse. it may just be your meter is being effected by the charging cable. mine would do that until I rewired it to a relay I had for my driving lights so it gets direct battery power when the ignition is on

Some fast chargers draw as much as 4-5 amps. Remember we have big batteries on smartphones. Thats at least 10% of your alt output. Just a thought

Same answer here too.
Without a lot of electrical math...Yes it could be normal.
This is called voltage drop with load.
I suspect if your volt meter we're attached to a different circuit from the charger you would find it doesn't change much if any.
Your volt meter is attached to a low power, small gauge, ignition controlled line..Draw a amp for the phone and it will drop the volts at the end of the wire..
Is there a "fix"???
If you like, you could rewire the switched ignition(accessory) to a relay and run a fused #12 wire to the volt meter and power plug...

OK virgilmobile this is the way I have it wire down. I have the Mini Led Digital voltmeter and the 12 volt Dual USB power outlet it come together in the mid. Red with red wire and Black with black and made it one wire on each side install of 4 wire coming out so the Digital voltmeter and USB power are connected together then it goes to that Acc. off the bike then to the power plate with a 10amp fuse on the power plate I don't think i have a relay on it have not remove the sit to look will look later. If the normal drop is ok with me cause I don't usually do this just once in a while. When to look again and YES in front off my nose I have a relay.

So you do have a relay switching the acc. wire feeding the outlet and volt meter. What size is the wire and is the black(ground) the same size and does it tie directly to the frame or one of the bikes green(ground)wire?
I refer this to a "home run" wiring method.
#12 wire from the frame (battery ground)feeding both devices and a #12 wire returning back to the battery.
This sounds odd but remember...electric comes from the negative post of the battery..through the "stuff" then back to the battery positive post..

Ok i remove my sit and it look at the wire ga. look like I add an 18ga. to the 12ga. wire

You can rewire it or just live with it knowing it's ok..just showing a voltage drop.
I mainly watch my volt meter for sudden large changes..say dropping from 13.8 to 12.2..a indication it quit charging.

[/quo If I rewire it to 18ga. wire will a drop the much or just a little and is there a big diff on the 18ga to 12ga wires besides the thickness on the wire. cause the 12 volt Dual USB power outlet start with 12ga. wires I think and i just add. 18ga. wire to it.
