Oil on alternator

Post by ftmoore992003 »

On the alternator diagram, 2000 GL 1500 SE part # 1, 13531-mt8-000 is there a seal that goes in front of this part? There is oil coming from the alternator and its on the rubber dampers when replaced and cranked. It was dry when it was removed. It was dry before when the other 3 alternators were removed. Anyone ever replaced a seal in front of the alternator by any chance?

Oil leaking from the engine into the alternator means the seal is gone.

You will most likely have to take it apart to replace the seal.
If this is an OEM alternator, the seal is a 22x38x7. It can be bought at any bearing supply.
The Honda Part Number is 31104-MN5-005 if you want to buy from the dealer.

Is the oil coming from the alternator or behind the dampers?

The oil is coming from the engine. There is no oil in the alternator.

That’s what I thought. What I’m getting at is how do you repair of the oil leak is there a seal back behind the alternator on the motor?

No, that is how the motor is designed. Once the alternator is removed you now have an open engine. What needs to be done is to replace the seal on the alternator input.

It would also be a good idea to get a new O-Ring for the alternator where it goes into the alternator well on the engine.
O-RING (84.5X4), Honda Part # 91320-MN5-003
