Alternitive Throttle options?

Post by oldmopars »

A few years back I started to have problems with my wrist. A visit to the doctor revealed that I have severe arthritis in the wrist. As time goes on I am loosing motion in the wrist an I can't bend it. My left wrist I can bend almost 90 degrees in both directions, but my right I am down to about 15 degrees in each direction. It is not the pain that is the issue, it physically stops as though the bones are fused. This makes using the throttle very difficult. I do not want this to stop me from riding, so I need to investigate other ways to control the throttle.
Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution or see other bikes modified with a different type of throttle control?

How about a thumb throttle off of, or like those used on ATV's.
Would solve one problem, but probably create another. You would have to hold it with your thumb all the time.
Just a thought.

I've found with a bit of arthritis in my right wrist, this has helped a lot when my wrist needs a break and I can't use the cruise control. Get it in the right position then a dab or two of Superglue and I don't have to twist my wrist.

Being a 1500, it has cruise control on it. That is not a problem for long straight roads. Its the twisties and town riding when you can use the CC. I do have a throttle assist, but find they are never in the right spot for me. I am constantly moving it around. Thumb throttle would not help either, arthritis is just as bad in my thumb.
I looked at right side throttle, but seems very complex on a Goldwing. Conversion kits are made for dirt bikes. I have not seen any foot controlled options for bikes.
