Remove CB hand controls but replace with what??

Post by harry37 »

Hi
My 97 GL1500SE doesn't have a CB Radio and the stereo is an after market one.

I would like to remove the CB left hand side handlebar controls but I don't want to be left with an ugly looking space or screw holes.

As anyone done this and what did you put in it's place or how did you make it look tidy?

Thank for reading and I'm looking forward to suggestions.

Harry

If it is an Aspencade, it did not come with CB controls on the handlebar.

If it is an SE, what happened to the CB?

I see you are in England (somewhere) so I assume you have a UK import. Did the GL1500SE UK import come with a CB?

Got a picture of what it is exactly you are talking about? Can you please post it?

Hi Mike
I can confirm it's an SE imported from California but someone before me removed the CB and when I got it the stereo was faulty.

I have installed an aftermarket stereo which I'm pleased with but I would now like yo remove the block on top of the clutch fluid that houses the fade, mute channel shift because it is no longer in use. However I don't want bolt holes or screw holes remaining or visible if this block of switches was removed.

Because I am disabled it ws converted in to a trike.

I will provide photos shortly but I'm not at the trike at the moment.

I have seen other posts where someone used those controls to control others things on the bike like after market lights ETC,. If you take the top 1/2 off you might be able to get a small plaque made with your name on it or a Gold Wing emblem,

You can remove the CB portion and just replace the stereo portion using a shorter screw. Not a perfect solution, but a lot smaller pod that way.
I did the reverse and added the CB controls to a bike that only had the stereo, so I could use the CB switches for a gate opener.
You might also be able to use the switches to control functions on your new stereo, if it has an option for a wired remote control.
Someone on Goldwingfacts did that with one of the newer small stereos.

What did the Interstates use, a blanking plate?
